Today is Jackie Robinson Day in Major League Baseball. For some it’s just another day. A day when all the players happen to wear the number 42. For others who truly know the game, who really understand the historical significance, it is something else. With the utmost respect to Jesse Owens, Muhammad Ali, Curt Flood, Babe Ruth, and Marvin Miller, there is no other more significant figure in the history of sports. To honor him I want to share this video above. The images were put together by a fan, but the music and audio are surely from the Ken Burns’ Baseball.
When Robinson died his eulogy was given by Rev. Jesse Jackson. While I am not a fan of some of his views and politics, this eulogy is beautiful.
